Impact Discovery India 2026

India has been part of the Impact Week story since 2018 — and now we are opening a new chapter on the country’s southwest coast, in Mangalore.

Since our first Indian event, we have run nine Impact Week events across Delhi, Guwahati, Shillong and Bengaluru — training 275 people in Design Thinking, guiding 808 challenge participants, and even helping 20 start-ups get off the ground. In September 2026 we bring that experience to Mangalore (officially Mangaluru), the education and port hub of coastal Karnataka, for a seven-day Impact Discovery.

Mangalore is one of India’s leading educational hubs, home to a young, dynamic student population and a growing wave of entrepreneurship in technology, healthcare, agriculture and e-commerce. As Karnataka’s main port city and gateway to the state’s exports, from coffee and cashews to seafood and spices, it sits at the crossroads of tradition and fast-moving change. It is also the home of our host, the Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE), which runs its own on-campus start-up incubator.

The mission of Impact Discovery India is to support young people in applying Design Thinking to find human- and community-centered solutions to the real challenges of their region — and to leave behind a lasting local capacity to keep innovating long after the event.

And you can be part of it — gaining a valuable skill for navigating an agile, digital world along the way.

What to expect

With our two-module approach, we first train a new batch of Junior Coaches through a 3-day “Train-the-Coach” phase (16–18 September). Employees of local universities, NGOs and social enterprises learn practical Design Thinking and intercultural skills alongside employees of international companies, taught by experienced international experts in small groups of six to seven.

The freshly trained Coaches then step into their new roles for the 4-day Impact Week Challenge (21–24 September). In intercultural tandems, each coaching pair guides a team of up to seven young innovators from MITE through the Design Thinking process, working on challenges drawn from the real needs of the region — always guided by experienced Senior Coaches.

The programme closes with Pitch Day (24 September), where every team presents its idea to a high-level jury. In a lively road show, jury members and visitors engage directly with the teams to learn more about their solutions.

The innovative, human-centred orientation of Design Thinking helps all participants transform the way they tackle a challenge — and the unique spirit of Impact Week will inspire you to look at entrepreneurship and social innovation in a completely different light.

What are the benefits of joining an Impact Week?

Build the Future Skills the world of work is asking for

The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report finds that nearly 40% of the core skills we rely on today will change by 2030 — and that the capabilities rising fastest in value are the human ones: analytical and creative thinking, resilience and adaptability, leadership, and the curiosity to keep learning. Design Thinking is one of the most direct ways to build them. Over the week you will practise:

  • Creative and analytical problem-solving — reframing messy, real-world challenges and turning them into tested solutions.
  • Customer- and user-centricity — the empathy-first mindset at the heart of every product and service that lasts.
  • Resilience and coaching under uncertainty — leading a team through ambiguity when there is no textbook answer.
  • Intercultural competence, communication and active listening — the collaboration skills that make you effective on any international team.

And you will not just learn about these skills — you will leave as a trained Junior Design Thinking Coach who has already applied the method in practice, with a real result to show for it.

Do it in the market of tomorrow

India is now the world’s most populous country and its fastest-growing major economy — expanding at around 6–7% a year and on track to become the world’s third-largest economy by the early 2030s. Powering that growth is a strikingly young workforce: a median age under 30, with roughly two-thirds of the population under 35, driving a booming ecosystem across tech, agritech, fintech and social innovation. Mangalore sits right inside it, as one of coastal Karnataka’s fastest-growing hubs.

Spending a week solving real challenges alongside young Indian innovators — not just visiting — gives you first-hand fluency in one of the defining markets of the century, and an international network that keeps opening doors long after Pitch Day.

And the cherry on top

  • Fresh perspectives on problem-solving and an international network that boosts your resourcefulness at work and opens the door to future collaborations.
  • You help build lasting local capacity: Impact Week enables our local partners to apply Design Thinking themselves and run their own Impact Weeks — so your week creates impact that stays on the ground long after you leave.
Who are our local partners?

Our Host Organisation is the Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE), a technology and engineering institution in Mangalore that runs its own on-campus start-up incubator. MITE enables its students to keep building on their ideas long after the event.

Our Network Partner is the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), connecting the programme to Karnataka’s wider innovation and digital-economy ecosystem.

What are the focus areas for challenges?

Guided by Design Thinking, teams develop and prototype ideas aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Each team works within one of four focus areas:

  • Software as a Service — cloud platforms that widen access to essential digital services.
  • Hardware — physical devices and smart products that solve real-world needs.
  • IT Software — applications and tools that improve systems and everyday life.
  • Agrotech — technology for sustainable farming, food security and rural livelihoods.

Because MITE enables its students to keep developing their ideas after the event, the strongest concepts can grow into ventures within the institute’s incubator.
